Your First Appointment

Medical and Hearing History

If you’re coming to see us for the first time, you might be wondering what to expect. Importantly, you have
nothing to worry about! Our hearing assessments and treatments are comfortable, non-invasive, and pain-free.

To ensure we can provide the best care, we’ll ask about your general health and medical history. We’ll also
discuss your hearing difficulties, including times when hearing is more challenging, such as in noisy
environments, or specific sounds that are particularly hard to hear, like high-pitched noises.

We’ll Look Inside Your Ears

Using an otoscope, we’ll examine your ear canal for earwax build-up and assess the health of your eardrum and middle ear. This can detect issues affecting your hearing, such as infections or excessive earwax. If we find impacted earwax, we’ll recommend removing it before proceeding. Our audiologists are trained and equipped to perform earwax removal in our hearing centers

Hearing Tests

Your audiologist will conduct several tests to assess your hearing. These typically take place in a soundproof booth. You’ll hear various noises and tones and will be asked to respond when you hear them. The audiologist will adjust the volume, tone, and pitch to gather detailed information about your hearing capabilities. You may also be asked to repeat sentences to assess how you respond to speech.

Discussing the Results

After the tests, your audiologist will explain the results and discuss treatment options if hearing loss is detected. If hearing aids are recommended, your audiologist will discuss the available options, explain how they work, and answer any questions you might have.
